Global Media Group (GMG), along with Rustavi 2 and Georgian Public Broadcasting (GPB), has been awarded certain media rights for the 2012–15 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League cycles.
Further to the recent allocation of UEFA Champions League rights to Rustavi 2 and the Georgian Public Broadcaster, pay television operator GMG will show two live matches each matchnight on GMG Football and GMG Sport 1 until the end of the group stage. A highlights programme will also be screened every matchweek throughout the season on GMG Football.
Reporting to Media.ge GMG’s chief producer Bidzina Baratashvili said as long as it is possible the broadcasters will be offering different matches. “The final will be simultaneously transmitted by all three broadcasters and the viewers will have a possibility to choose a channel at their option. Last year too the final was concurrently available on Rustavi 2 and GPB 1,” said Bidzina Baratashvili.
In addition to Champions League GMG will be transmitting UEFA Europa League too. For the second season now GMG has been holding an exclusive right to broadcast the championship across the whole territory of Georgia.
Rustavi 2 has had an exclusive right to transmit UEFA Champions League cycles since 1999. From 2009 GPB launched the transmission of the games.
GMG is a cable broadcaster having launched its broadcasting in January 2011. The TV company currently runs six channels, three of them offer viewers sports programming. Movies are available on two of the GMG channels, and the last one is the women’s channel.
