IWPR Caucasus Training Workshop

Call for participation in training workshop on Gender Aspects of Mediation: Empowering Women Peacebuilders.

Location: Yerevan, Armenia

The Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), in partnership with UN Women, is seeking applications from potential participants in a four-day leadership training workshop.

Entitled Gender Aspects of Mediation: Empowering Women Peacebuilders, the event will take place in Yerevan on September 23-26. Those selected to take part will also be involved in a three-year cycle of activities including training, roundtable discussions, media production and advocacy.

These activities are part of a project called Women Connecting For Peace – The Voice of Change, which IWPR is running in partnership with UN Women. This project seeks to build a network of Abkhazian, South Ossetian and Georgian women’s rights experts, media professionals and human rights activists, and to encourage women to engage proactively in peacebuilding and conflict prevention.

The project is a component of a wider UN Women programme, Women for Equality, Peace and Development, funded by the Norwegian foreign ministry.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

- A proven track record of activism and expertise in the area of gender and women’s rights;
- Experience of conflict analysis and an understanding of the political contexts of the Caucasus region;
- Proactive with excellent communication skills in Russian (English an asset);
- Impartial, open to dialogue, and willing to engage constructively in debate;
- No affiliation with any political party or movement.

A limited number of places is available. Priority will be given to gender experts (male and female) with previous experience in confidence building and people-to-people diplomacy initiatives.

IWPR will cover travel, accommodation and subsistence costs for participants who are selected.
