Journalist Sues Chair of Supreme Council of Adjara AR

Media about media

Journalist Nino Khozrevanidze of InterPressNews agency, Netgazeti reports, has lodged a complaint to Batumi City Court against Avtandil Beridze, the Chair of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. Reportedly the complaint lodged touches upon degrading business reputation, honor and dignity.

Nino Khozrevanidze is being defended by lawyer Maia Katamadze of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA). The complainants demand Avtandil Beridze’s statement, quasi journalist delivered some misleading news, to be negated.

“It did not happen for the first time and I was not an exception accused of disseminating falsehood,” said Nino Khozrevanidze reporting to Netgazeti. The charge sounds very negative since it contains libel.

“I did not spread misinformation, therefore I felt myself offended. And especially when such a high rank legislator alleges that the journalist spread disinformation, I was not the only one harmed but the media outlet, the agency I represent too. I would not have lodged a complaint if Avtandil Beridze had stated that no such charges would be never again filed against journalists,” said Nino Khozrevanidze.

Media.Ge reported on the incident between the journalist and the Chair of the Supreme Court on February 11, 2013. Avtandil Beridze then called Nino Khozrevanidze a liar for the article aboutjoining Batumi organization of political union Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia by some of the delegates in the course of the sitting held by the organization.
