Georgian Public Defender Announces Competition for Journalists on Tolerance and Diversity
The contest participants should submit articles published from February 15 to October 15, 2010 in a Georgia-based daily, weekly or monthly newspaper. The publications should be covering the following topics:
** Relations between ethnic groups and/or religions in Georgia;** Daily life, culture and characteristics of ethnic groups and/or religions in Georgia; ** Potential for developing tolerant environment in the country; ** Ethnic minorities-related situation in Georgia; ** Intolerance, xenophobia and discrimination-related issues in Georgia; ** Critical analysis of negative religious and ethnical stereotypes inculcated among the society; ** International practice into fight against intolerance, xenophobia, discrimination and extremism and its demonstration in Georgia; ** Different aspects of relations between state and religious groups;
The publication shall be conducive to initiating the introduction of tolerant environment, respect to the culture of diversity and the discussion over the aforementioned issues.
Maximum length of the publication shall be 1,000 words.
The winners of the contest will be recognized by an ad hoc commission invited by the Public Defender's Office.
The winners will be awarded special diplomas and prizes.
In addition to the hard copy the contest participants should submit an electronic version of the publication to the following address: Center for Tolerance, Public Defender's Office, 6 Nino Ramishvili Street, Tbilisi, Georgia. The submitted material shall include contact details, e.g. phone number and E-mail.
The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2010.
