President's Symbolic Presents - New Documentary by Monitor Studio

Forthe last three years President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has alienated up to 70 units at a symbolic price, tells the new documentary produced by the Monitor Studio presented on July 29 at the Open Society Georgia Foundation office.

A greater part of a 26-minute documentary by Giorgi Meladze covers Georgian media including the story about a lot of 226,000 sq m. located in Sandro Euli street in Tbilisi handed over to Rustavi 2. The Monitor Studio journalist found out the TV company has paid GEL 40 per square meter. But according to the law in Saburtalo district where the aforementioned street is located the City Hall has no right to sell the lot for no less than GEL 68 per sq m.

Giorgi Mgeladze investigated the cases of two TV companies. In particular Region TV (former Alania) the president gifted with a lot of 234 sq m at 34 Zubalashvili St for just one Euro and Real TV whose premises are located in a three-storey building being in another person's possession.

The aforementioned house belongs to the family of David Kekua, former high official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Kekua himself, according to the official reports, committed a suicide in prison. Neither the television nor the family members want to make any comments over the issue.

The film mentions former TV anchor Inga Grigolia's family too. According to the documentary Roman Grigolia, the father of Inga Grigolia, incumbent Sakrebulo member has been handed over the property of USD 30 to 50 thousand in Peking street in Tbilisi at GEL 1,310.

Despite numerous attempts by the authors of the documentary President's administration refused to express its stance over any of the aforementioned cases. According to the lawyers the Georgian legislation doesn't envisage the alienation of the property at the symbolic price and President doesn't enjoy a right to alienate or gift the property in this form.
