Nino Burjanadze Sues Three Media Outlets
On July 23 Nino Burjanadze, former Parliamentary chairperson and an incumbent leader of the opposition party Democratic Movement for United Georgia sued Rustavi 2, the Prime Time and droni.ge media holding.
Citing the humiliation of Nino Burjanadze's dignity and the dissemination of false information as a motive the complaint was lodged at Tbilisi City Court by Teimuraz Murghulia of the party council, reads the publication posted on the official website of the Democratic Movement for United Georgia.
The opposition party leader raised claims against the July 12 article published in the Prime Time, the TV story aired on the same day on Rustavi 2 and the publication later posted on droni.ge. According to the aforementioned media outlets Nino Burjanadze purchased the mansion near Tbilisi, in a prestigious Tskneti settlement Kaklebi for USD 2 mln according to the newspaper and for USD 5 mln according to 5 mln. While pursuant to the droni.ge publication Burjanadze had been transferred USD 1,8 mln from Russia to buy the mansion in exchange for divulging the state secret to the Russian side.
Nino Burjanadze demands media outlets to make a public apology for disseminating the information.
"With regard to the accusation on selling secret information to the Russian side we demand an immediate response by the prosecutor's office and an investigation to be launched since it' their responsibility!," reads the statement released by the Party.
