Journalism Investigation by Monitor Studio Screened
On July 21 the Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) hosted the screening of the journalism investigation produced by the Monitor studio.
The movie covers heroine transit and drug situation in the country. The work on the film lasted four months. The investigation is based on the reports published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the US bureau for fighting drugs.
The film features a specific location the transit from Georgia to Europe is being conducted. One of the respondents in the movie in particular Giorgi Gachechiladze, chairman of the Greens Party considers that drug business in Georgia is being supporting by the representatives of the authorities. In 2005 the similar accusations were voiced against the high officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs by their colleagues.
According to the movie author Nana Naskidashvili she faced difficulty with obtaining information from the state structures and that was the reason of delayed filming.
"The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs didn't respond our calls. Then we were requested to E-mail the questions but we received no reply. The response to our official letter was delivered with a three-month delay," Naskidashvili said.
"300,000 drug addicts in a country with the population of 3 million is equal to a genocide, the movie is a serious work and I hope it is going to enjoy a deep resonance," said Giorgi Gachechiladze reporting to Media.ge.
The investigation by the Monitor studio is going to be aired on Kavkasia and Maestro TVs too.
