Prominent TV Anchor to Run for Tbilisi Sakrebulo Elections
Prominent Georgian TV anchor Inga Grigolia is to take part, through the opposition Christian-Democratic party election list, in the Tbilisi Sakrebulo elections scheduled to be held on May 30, 2010.Speaking at the March 10 press conference Giorgi Targamadze, leader of the Christian-Democratic party said Inga Grigolia will be heading the election party list and run for the position of the Tbilisi Sakrebulo chairperson.
"Fighter for the protection of human rights and democratic values throughout years - anyone can easily use these words in regard to Inga Grigolia," Giorgi Targamdze said.
"Forthcoming local self-government elections are going to condition the future political life of our country. It is going to be hard elections to win," Inga Griolia, reporting via phone, told Rustavi 2.
TV presenter is currently pursuing her studies in London. She quit the GPB First Channel in September 2009. She used to anchor a popular authorship program Political Week. According to the TV presenter quitting of the channel was due to unacceptable labor conditions proposed to her by the GPB Director General Giorgi Chanturia.
Throughout years Inga Grigolia used to anchor high rating authorship programs on Imedi and Mze TVs. She is well acquainted with the Christian-Democratic Party leaders, former journalists. Grigolia used to work together with them for Imedi TV when owned by late business tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili.
Following Patarkatsishvili's death shortly ahead of the May 2008 Parliamentary Elections former Imedi TV journalists founded a Christian-Democratic Party and managed to be granted 7 mandates at the Parliament of Georgia. Non-parliamentary opposition reprimands the Christian-Democratic Party for moderation and loyalty to the authorities.
