Criminal Suit Lodged against Journalist in Dedoplistskaro, local online edition reports

Dedoplistskaro police has filed a criminal suit against local correspondent. Online newspaper Kiziki (Dedoplistskaro district, east Georgia) journalist Tamila Gurashvili is accused of beating Gocha Kachashvili of Municipality Gamgeoba (local authorities).

According to the online edition the investigation is being conducted by the Dedoplistskaro regional department of MIA.

The Municipality Gamgeoba representative Gocha Kachashvili, Tamila Gurashvili said, physically abused the journalist and damaged her cell phone, in the course of the attack she was just trying to defend herself.

"The Ozaani village Gamgebeli Gocha Kachashvili and Gamgeoba representative Gia Potskhverashvili first swear-worded against me in the street, then Kachashvili damaged my cell phone, and afterwards slapped and beat me and when I made a thrust with a notepad against him, he appealed to the police accusing me of beating him. A criminal suit has been filed and I am under the threat of arrest," the online newspaper reiterates Tamila Gurashvili.

Potskhverashvili and Kachashvili make no comments in regard to the incident. According to the information provided by the Dedoplistskaro municipality Gamgebeli Levan Baghashvili, published by the online edition, Gurashvili physically abused Kachashvili, as a result Kachashvili got an injury.

The newspaper editorial staff considers the incident as an attempt of discrediting the journalist and calls upon NGOs and human rights watchdogs for support.
