Georgian Public Defender Announces Contest for Journalists

Georgian Public Defender announces contest for journalists on Tolerance and Diversity organized by the Tolerance Center within the Public Defender's Office with the support of UNDP.

Applicants are requested to submit articles published in a Georgian daily, weekly or a monthly newspaper from February 18 to October 15, 2010. The publications should cover the following topics:

- Georgian ethnic and /or religious relations;

- Everyday life of Georgian ethnicities and /or acting religions, their culture and peculiarities;

- Georgia's potential for developing tolerant environment;

- Minorities in Georgia;

- Intolerance, xenophobia ad discrimination-related issues;

- Analysis of religious and ethnic stereotypes in the society;

- International practice in the fight against intolerance, xenophobia ad discrimination and      extremism and its demonstration in Georgia;

- Different aspects of relations between state and religious unions.

The publication should be conducive to the creation of tolerance in the society, respect to the diversity of culture, and initiating discussions over the aforementioned issues.

Entries must be at least 1,000 words.

Excellence in the contest will be recognized by an ad hoc commission invited by the Public Defender. The winners will be awarded special prizes and certificates.

In addition to the hardcopy of the newspaper applicants should submit electronic version of the publication at Tolerance Center, Public Defender's Office, 11, Machabeli St, Tbilisi. The submission must be attached with applicant's contact details including phone number and E-mail.

The application deadline is October 15, 2010.
