Civil Society Institute Awarded Journalism Contest Winners
On February 12 Sheraton Metekhi Palace Hotel hosted the awards ceremony to recognize the winners of the journalism contest announced by the Civil Society Institute.
Welfare Initiative - Caring for Each Other contest initiated and organized by the Civil Society Institute was conducted for the third year now.
The goal of the contest was to recognize the best social newspaper article, TV and radio report, as well as excellence in photography.
Ahead of the awards ceremony journalists were offered the exhibition of contest works. In total 14 journalists have been awarded.
Press, best articles:
Natia Guliashvili (The Liberal magazine) - first prize for the article Psychiatric Reservations; Eka Chitanava (The Liberal magazine) - first prize for the article Corpse-Transplant; Shorena Glonti (Guria-based newspaper the Guria News) - encouraging prize; Jaba Ananidze (georgian weekly the Kviris palitra) - encouraging prize; Sophio Todua (Georgian daily the 24 Hours) - special prize.
TV, best TV story:
Giorgi Gvishiani (Rustavi 2) - first prize; Sophiko Ochkhikidze (Rustavi 2) - second prize; Nino Kakhishvili encouraging prize for the TV story Red Coat; Joint work by Rusudan Panozishvili (The Liberal magazine) and Tamar Paradashvili - encouraging prize.
Radio, best radio story:
Eka Kevanishvili (Radio Liberty) - second prize
Best photo:
Marika Kochiashvili (The Liberal magazine) - first prize; Photo artist Mariam Amurvelashvili - second prize.
According to Lia Chakhunashvili of the jury numerous works had been submitted for the contest. Due to the high quality of works the decision was made to share the first prize between two contesters. Unlike press category of radio lacked submissions. The first prize owner haven't been recognized, the second prize was awarded to the Radio Liberty journalist. Eventually the Liberal magazine has been awarded most of the prizes. Prizes in different categories have been awarded to four journalists of the Liberal magazine.
