Court Refused to Satisfy Complaint by Batumelebi Director
On February 4 the Tbilisi City Court refused to satisfy the complaint by Mzia Amaglobeli, Director, the Batumelebi newspaper director and Eter Turadze, Editor-in-chief. According to the complaint the applicants demanded the decision on a fine imposed on them at the Sarpi customs checkpoint to be declared as void.
On August 15, 2009 Eter Turadze and Mzia Amaglobeli crossed the Georgian-Turkish border to conduct journalism investigation into the customs clearance procedure. In the course of their professional activities the customs staff imposed a GEL 1,000 fine on each.
The Batumelebi appealed the decision first at the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance and afterwards at the court.
Today the motivation part of the ruling hasn't been announced by the court.
The media legal protection centre of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) is protecting the interests of the journalists.
