School Directors to Contact Press Center of Ministry of Education ahead of Communicating with Journalists
According to Manana Ghurchumelidze, Chairperson, Free Trade Unions of Pedagogues and Scientists of Georgia in line with the order by the Ministry of Education public school directors and pedagogues are restricted to grant any comments to journalists without the agreement with the press center of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Manana Ghurchumelidze reported at the January 25 meeting held with media representatives in Tbilisi.
"I consider the fact of setting restrictions for school directors on the communication with journalists as a serous danger. We appealed to David Lagvilava, Head of the Union for School Directors and requested him to make a statement in this regard. Since the majority of school directors carry on their pedagogic activities, which means they are the members of our organization, we are not going to stay silent and put up with another obstacle," Manana Ghurchumelidze stressed.
In response to the Media.ge question on the mechanisms for lifting the restriction from their side Ghurchumelidze said they would try to conduct nationwide rallies.
"There is a mechanism of rallies permitted by law," Ghurchumelidze clarified. The events and initiatives by pedagogues' trade unions are blocked by central televisions on purpose. According to Manana Ghurchumelidze it's an attempt by the authorities to keep their organization in vacuum.
On January 21 reporting through GPB TV programme Dialogue with David Paichadze, Dimitri Shashkin, Minister of Education said against his order school directors shall first inform the Ministry press center of granting interviews or providing information to the journalists, so that the press center could "help" directors with "the communication" with reporters.
David Paichadze, TV programme anchor pointed out that ahead of the aforementioned order school directors could talk to journalists "in a far more interesting way."
