Russian-Language First Caucasian Channel Preparing to Launch Broadcasts
Preparatory works to launch the Russian-language First Caucasian TV channel have been kickstarted. The channel programming will be made up of news outlets, authorship programmes including the one by Oleg Panfilov and the talk show by Ala Dudaeva, as well as cognitive-entertainment programmes.
We were granted an interview by Zurab Dvali, chief producer, First Caucasian.
-At this stage the organizational issues are being arranged, we are installing decorations, orders for equipments have been placed but we are short of time as we are to launch broadcasting in January. As of programmes we are going to have authorship ones, in this regard we invited Oleg Panfilov, Director of the Center for Journalism in Extreme Situations, and Alana Dudaeva, spouse of Jokhar Dudadev, ex-President of Chechnya, in addition cognitive programmes, TV series, as well as documentaries are planned to be included in the programming,” he reported.
-What is the information policy of the channel going to be like?
- We are going to have several news outlets in the Russian language, and in the evening – a summarizing outlet and an analytical programme. The main message of the channel is going to be good neighborhood relations and we are far from the idea this is going to be an anti-Russian channel. Nothing of a kind, our task looks as follows: Alana Dudaeva is going to anchor her authorship talk show, dialogues with prominent Caucasians living in North Caucasus or Russia or other countries. The programme will be preaching of peace in the Caucasus region.
-Tbilisi fears the First Caucasian is going to be silenced in North Caucasus and conflict regions.
-When talking about that my memories go back to the Soviet period and the attempts of the authorities at the time to prevent the information unfavorable to them from reaching the people. If we preach of pleasant neighborhood and discuss what is in fact being on between Moscow and Tbilisi, is it to be silenced? There are technical means and we are aware the programmes can be blocked but we know how to conduct broadcasting to make our TV air reach the people interested.
-Are you planning to cooperate with local correspondents, for instance with North Caucasian journalists?
-Of course, it’s an important issue but we do not enjoy a wide choice in terms of staff. Some time will pass and the emotions and the excitement mounted in Russia is going to be settled down. They are going to find out the work we are doing is favorable to Russia too. We face numerous problems when setting up the channel but hope for solutions with time.
- Do you face any problems with finding Russian-speaking staff in Georgia?
- We have always had good Russian-speaking journalists in Georgia, with time some of them left Georgia but lately many journalists have arrived. Georgia has got enough resources so we are trying to invite prominent specialists to secure the high rating of the channel.
Oleg Panfilov, Director of the Center for Journalism in Extreme Situations is going to anchor a weekly half-an-hour authorship programme Georgia with Oleg Panfilov.
- Today we were shooting a trial version of the programme, the first edition is going to cover the former capital city Mtskheta and Jvari Monastery. The goal of the programme is getting people aware of Georgia. From my point of view Mtskheta is the place where Georgia begins from. We are going to introduce Mtskheta, Jvari, Svetitskhoveli - the ancient city of Georgia - to our audience.
The authorship programme is scheduled to be aired once per week. We are going to produce TV reports from regions across Georgia, in addition we are planning to conduct expeditions to historic places and look for interesting people.
- Do you think the audience will be interested in the programmes of a kind?
- Georgia is now in the state of fierce Russia propaganda. Throughout a year they have been trying to show how bad Georgia is and it has evidently affected human relations. The overreaching goal of mine is to demonstrate Georgia the way it is and fight against Russian propaganda, Georgia, of course lacks similar technical and material resources, nevertheless I will try to tell the audience about the relations established in Georgia. Ethnically diverse people live here and so forth. My first progamme is expected to be aired on January 4, 2010.
