Wages of Ossetian Journalists Rising

Wages of Ossetian journalists will be raised, Ossetian news agencies report.  The given request was made by the Chairman of the State Committee for Information and Mass Communications Maia Karebova at the Session of Government of the de facto republic.  Salaries of budgetary organizations’ employees have been raised several times since 2008, but media workers have never been included in the given list.

Journalists Insulted in a Public School

Journalists of ShidaKartli Information Center have been physically and verbally insulted at Gori 9th Public School.  Journalists Tamar Kajilashvili and Tamar Khidasheli visited the school and were collected information from students and teachers about IaBzhalava, a teacher fired from the 9th Public School. 

For your information IaBzhalava has been fired by the school Dean EleneKhachidze without any explanation. Bzhalava is a certified teacher and has not received single warning during 20 years of work at the school. 

Tskhinvali Blogger Banned to Return Home

Tskhinvali blogger and civil activist Alan Parastaev has been prohibited to return home for five days already.  Border guards of the so called Roki checkpoint did not allow him to enter the de-facto republic of South Ossetia and sent him back to Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia, without any explanation.  Parastaev was returning from the European Union initiated conference for development bologsphere held in Geneva.  Parastae

GARB Conducts Discussion on Human Rights and their Security Issues in Conflict Zone

On October 8 the residents of the conflict zone, as well as the representatives of the authorities, society and media convened at the premises of the non-governmental organization Kartlosi. The meeting was organized by the Georgian Association of Regional Broadcasters (GARB) which produces TV program Mravalkutkhedi (Polygonal) with the support of Open Society Georgia Foundation.

I am not Ashamed

Shida Kartli residents watched Bidzina Ivanishvili’s live press conference on two TV stations. The November 1 press conference was aired live by Georgian Public Broadcaster and Trialeti TV channel.
When Ivanishvili was talking about Georgia’s prospects of joining NATO and Russia’s future accession to WTO the TV signal of first channel of Georgian Public Broadcaster was unexpectedly lost. Other TV channels continued broadcasting without any problems. The signal of the first channel was off for 5-7 minutes.

IDP News for IDPs

It has been over a year since civil journalists have been preparing reports from IDP settlements.  Institute of War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) and Georgian regional radio stations are airing the program "IDP News".  Civil journalists, who visit IDP settlements once a month, listen to the problems of the IDPs and learn about the projects and programs implemented in the IDP settlements are the authors of the reports.

August War Through the Eyes of Polish Movie Directors

"Fear for war is worse than war," the words prefacing another movie about August war 2008. The movie entitled House was made by Polish directors Dorota Petrus and Bogdan Lęcznar.

The screening was held on June 16 at the library of Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University.

Journalism Mission to War-Affected Village

Village Dvani in Kareli region, located in the vicinity of breakaway South Ossetia, neighbors two Ossetian villages such as Muguti and Didmukha. During the 2008 Georgian-Russian war Dvani was inflicted considerable damage. 50 per cent of houses were first looted and then set fire by the marauders. Currently the village dwellers have poor living conditions.

Media Pundit Zviad Koridze Meets with Gori-based NGOs and Media Representatives

On March 29 media pundit Zviad Koridze conducted a meeting with journalists and NGO representatives at the Gori office of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA). At the very beginning of the meeting Zviad Koridze clarified that he hadn't arrived in Gori under the mandate of the chairperson of the Journalists Charter of Ethics of Georgia. In the course of the meeting recent bickering between Trialeti TV and several NGOs were discussed.
