Logical Paradoxes

ოლიმპიური ცეცხლი -

If you believe in the editorial independence of national TV broadcasters then you are either a member of the National Movement and you have got no other way, or you are a former Minister of Economy, or your wife is an ‘unrivaled’ singer of Tsaghveri andTbilisior you are someone named Gia Karamanashvili. There is another option – your name is Misha Tavkhelidze. But no, Misha Tavkhelidze is another case. Reporting on Kavkasia TV he said “national broadcasters unambiguously support the government, what’s wrong with that?”

Yes, what’s wrong if the newscast airs 40-minute speeches by the President, and that has got no end?! What’s wrong if we are made to watch how Misha is walking around, eating, riding a bike, how the songs are being sung to him, how “the mossy stars” arrive in Georgia to see Misha and give a concert on the way?! What’s wrong then man, didn’t North Koreastart the same way? Aren’t they living happily now and haven’t they cried wholeheartedly over Kim Jong-il? In short, ahead toNorth Korea! There is still a lot to be done, andSingaporewill be closer too.

Prior to reaching North Koreawe have got to remove the word “paradox” out of Georgian dictionaries. Everything illogical is being in place so often on our side that one might start casting doubts on the logic of logics. To illustrate that I would like to cite several paradoxes of the kind out of the interview granted to the Georgian daily Rezonansi by Giorgi Arveladze, 45 percent share holder of Imedi TV.

Logical Paradox №1

I can get no clue how Mr Giorgi Arveladze manages to maintain independent editorial policy while reporting to the Rezonansi he says President of Georgia had been wining his sympathetic for long and is currently maintaining close relation with him. Besides he used to be the Minister and just like the Olympic Flame being passed from hand to hand, he became the director general of the television seized from legal owners, in a peaceful manner, without any professional guarantees.

Logical Paradox №2

To tell the truth I failed to recollect any person who has not created anything innovative (e.g. Facebook) or hasn’t been handed down huge legacy and still having managed to become the owner of millions within five years to present himself as a legal possessor of a big share of the country’s ‘most highly rating’ television in the country. Is it possible to earn so much money through 5-year work for the consulting firms? Here is the answer (An extract from the interview):

“R”: How did you manage, after quitting the government and becoming a natural person, cumulate such a big financial resource to buy the TV share?”

G. A.: “Funny to talk over that.”

Truly funny.

Logical Paradox №3

Mate Kirvalidze – this name is already a paradox, I think. The person who used to work for Imedi until 2007 and currently heading information service at the same TV company.

Logical Paradox №4

In response to the question why political talk shows are no longer available on national broadcasters the TV chiefs and (here we can also use conjunction ‘or’) government supporters have been referring to the results of the survey carried out by the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) stating people show preference for entertainment programs rather than these damned talks shows. Let’s believe the non-existent and think that GNCC is independent and its survey reflected reality. I have a question then, if people have no desire to watch 45-minute talk shows do they wish to watch 40-minute Presidential shows? Or through stuffing this 40-minute into newscasts the time gets less or the content does change?  It is comprehensible that no journalist can have a better producer than Misha and no one else will be able to stage more effective shows but maybe they should ask people if they want to watch presidential merry-making?

Shortly speaking I think more than enough of logical paradoxes has Mr Arveladze offered us within a single interview. But Giorgi will go and someone else will come but the problem remains the same since inGeorgiathere are many Misha Tavkhelidzes who believe that nothing goes wrong with delivering the information in a distorted manner. The worst thing is that these Misha Tavkhelidzes are often the decision-makers.
