Ahead of the August 2008 war the information policy of the Georgian authorities was mainly oriented on the English-speaking audience. Excited comments by President Mikheil Saakashvili were aired almost every week through CNN or BBC and the Georgian national channels kept on re-broadcasting aforementioned shots as well as any TV speech by him.

But it is also noteworthy that the authorities worked on the non-English-speaking society too, for instance small in number but politically highly important segment such as the Ossetian part of Tskhinvali region.

"Receipt of National Agency of Public Registry extract costs GEL 15," reads the November 3, 2009 amendment adopted by the Parliament of Georgia and having entered into force on January 1, 2010. A citizen willing to identify the business owner or the founder shall pay the aforementioned amount. For instance, Monitor Studio journalist Givi Mgeladze needs to identify the founders of 40 firms to conduct a journalism investigation. In total he has to pay GEL 600. This sum is a luxury to any citizen or media organization.

Supporting democracy in Georgia is now as important as 10 years ago. Independent Georgian media, absolutely necessary for the development of democracy, suffers like earlier. Therefore the projects focused on its sustainability and advancement are gladly funded by international institutes and private donors. The Open Society Georgia Foundation was one of the pioneers having displayed interest in the independent Georgian media. Today only very few means of media, with considerable history, have been left unfunded by the aforementioned Foundation.

It’s December 24. I have got six fresh Georgian newspapers including the Georgian Times, Rezonansi, Alia, Akhali Taoba, 24 Hours and Sakartvelos Respublika on my desk. I have looked through them several times and I am rather frustrated.

On December 14-15 Court Yard Marriott Hotel hosted the working meeting Professionalism in Media. The workshop was organized by the Embassy of France in Georgia. The event was initiated within the cooperation between Lille High School of Journalism (France) and the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). The outcome of the cooperation will be the establishment of a professional education center for South Caucasus media to be based on French experience and European values. The initiative is being supported by EU.

Georgian animators are hoping a local television makeover of The Simpsons will mimic the American animated series' two decades of success. But the show, The Samsonadzes, walks a thin line between originality and flat-out imitation of the world's best-known cartoon family.

Shalva Ramishvili, the show's producer and creator, says that his idea was to create a program that is reminiscent of The Simpsons without being an actual copy. "I like The Simpsons, too. It is a cult cartoon for the USA. We needed to do something great, something that is different than everything else," said Ramishvili, who produced a political satire cartoon TV series under ex-President Eduard Shevardnadze.

December 4, Tbilisi - 138 journalists founded the Association for the Charter of Ethics of Georgian Journalists and signed ethical standards. In addition the founders elected the monitoring board of the Association and the revision commission.
