According to the 1991 order by the Board of Ministers the newspapers Molodiozh Gruzii («Молодежь Грузии») and Zarya Vostoka merged into a new edition named Vestnik Gruzii («Вестник Грузии») whose lifetime was limited to three months only. Since April 10, 1991 the newspaper has been coming out under the name of Svobodnaya Gruzia («Свободная Грузия»).

About a year ago TV station Mze’s (Sun) format was changed; its news service and political talk-shows were shut down. As a result of those changes many professional journalists left the TV channel. “Don’t go down our Sun” was the slogan that the former employees of that TV channel created then, they made a pledge that they’d all return to TV station some day. One year later Mze is not as popular as it was before and it doesn’t shine so brightly; however, the management of the TV station states that the TV company will not go back to its original format.

On July 15 the Banks and Finances, the only economic newspaper on the Georgian market has issued its 200th anniversary edition.
The newspaper, founded in 1995 was initially an economic addition to the Gulani newspaper. Following the closure of the Gulani it was issued as an independent economic newspaper. The Banks and Finances was founded by Vazha Beridze, the head of the editorial council and the owner at the same time.

Radio Dzveli Kalaki (old town) ( FM 107.9) broadcasts in Kutaisi, adjacent regions and Kolkheti lowland (Poti).


The population in the region tops around 1 mil people, 27% of the population listens to Dzveli Kalaki. The opinion poll was conducted in May 2009 by ATN research center.

The first business radio Kommersant (FM 95.5) being on for a year now is to offer its audience a new diverse programming.


In August Kommersant radio is to mark its one year anniversary and in this regard spreads its broadcasting area far to Batumi and then Kutaisi. The expansion of broadcasting area towards Kakheti (East Georgia) is also planned. The Kommersant radio is to obtain a new license to broadcast in the regions.

Georgian newspaper the Guria News comes out twice per week on Mondays and Thursdays with a weekly circulation of 7,000-7,200. The Monday edition consists of 16 pages with 2 colored pages and is being distributed together with Guria youth weekly Under 21 with 2 colored covers. The Guria News Thursday edition is 8 pages.
