Press freedom promoter from Bosnia and Herzegovina named OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media
დუნია მიატოვიჩი, ეუთოს წარმომადგენელი მედიის თავისუფლების საკითხებში

The 56 OSCE participating States appointed today Dunja Mijatovic from Bosnia and Herzegovina as the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.

Mijatovic was appointed for a three-year term that can be renewed once. She starts work in the Vienna-based office of the OSCE Representative on March 11, succeeding Miklos Haraszti.

According to Media Development Foundation Monitoring Results Georgian Media Covers Minority Issues through Violation of Standards

Since January 1 2010 Media Development Foundation has been monitoring the Georgian-language media coverage of ethnic and religious minority issues. On March 11, at the Public Defender's Office, the Foundation representatives introduced the journalists the outcome of the monitoring conducted in the recent two months.

Appeals by Former Imedi TV Journalists to be Submitted to European Court of Human Rights
Tbilisi-based NGO Human Rights Priority is to submit the appeals by former Imedi TV journalists to the European Court of Human Rights in the forthcoming days.

Former Imedi TV staff are appealing the violation of their fundamental rights followed after the November 7, 2007 raid into Imedi TV premises. In addition journalists are appealing inefficient investigation conducted by the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia.

Tax Amnesty to Embrace National Channels too
The initiative proposed by President Mikheil Saakashvili on the declaration of tax amnesty for televisions is going to embrace national televisions too.

According to the annual parliamentary report, posted on the President's official website Mikheil Saakashvili proposes MPs "a new initiative by which all Georgian TV channels, whether regional or national, will be granted a tax amnesty so that they are able to develop stronger foundations" that is to enhance the Georgian democratic and political culture.

Prominent TV Anchor to Run for Tbilisi Sakrebulo Elections
Prominent Georgian TV anchor Inga Grigolia is to take part, through the opposition Christian-Democratic party election list, in the Tbilisi Sakrebulo elections scheduled to be held on May 30, 2010.

Speaking at the March 10 press conference Giorgi Targamadze, leader of the Christian-Democratic party said Inga Grigolia will be heading the election party list and run for the position of the Tbilisi Sakrebulo chairperson.

Media Council to Appeal to Prosecutor General
Media Council set up in December 2009 is going to appeal to the Prosecutor General of Georgia in regard to the recent frequently recurring attacks against journalists.

The decision was reached in the course of the March 4 sitting.

Telavi Police Launched Investigation into Threat against Journalist

Telavi regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs launched investigation into the case of threat against the journalist. The March 2 incident local journalist Gela Mtivlishvili faced in the Tsinandali garden is being concerned.

TBC TV Studio Makes Apology for Question to Jiji Rejini

TBC TV Studio has made an apology for the question posed to Jiji Rejini in the course of the Imedi TV program Time of Truth. The anchor's question was related to the photographer's ethnic origin: "Have you ever felt ashamed of your Armenian origin?" The question was irritating for the Armenians residing in Georgia. Therefore the authors of the program made an apology on the next day off of the show.
