Georgian-Ossetian Civil Dialogue – Excellent Grade

Ruslan Kokoev lives in Java district. He went to Istanbul to meet his Georgian colleagues where a Georgian-Ossetian civil dialogue took place for four days. Georgians and Ossetians were speaking very openly and frankly about the problems that hinder the conflict resolution process. Ruslan hasn’t seen his relatives living in Gori district for quite some time.

Georgian-Ossetian civil dialogue is being on in Istanbul with the participation of conflictologists, journalists, representatives of non-governmental and international organizations. The public dialogue series Point of View have been organized by George MasonUniversity since 2008.

Two newspapers such as Rustavis Ambebi (Rustavi News) and Rustavi come out in Rustavi (city in the southeast of Georgia, in theprovince of Kvemo Kartli). In addition to newspapers local news is being covered by Kvemo Kartli TV company. Most of Rustavidwellers are subscribed to cable TV service, some of them use terrestrial or satellite antennas. This way locals have access to both local and national media outlets.

Locals on Kharagauli Newspapers and National Channels

“What else can we watch?” – Notes from Telavi

Our business trip to Telavi coincides with the visit of the members of the Council of the Charter of Journalistic Ethics to the city.  For the first day of the visit they have scheduled a meeting with local population.  Surprisingly the meeting was cancelled, as nobody came.  I decided to speak with locals.
