Having read the 78-page report released by the Georgian Public Broadcasting (GPB) I doubt my TV set is broadcasting GPB at all or the cable TV, connected to my TV, is broadcasting another channel with the GPB First Channel logo on.
I have to thank Shalva Ramishvili greatly. I’ve been thinking for a long time and could not have decided which political force I like more. On one hand I just hate the postmodern Soviet Union the building of which I’m watching now. On second hand I even more hate its opposite pathetic, chaotic and even anachronistic ideas. On third hand… if even this third hand exists.
Georgian media has become the most boring topic one can write about. I don’t think it’s news to anyone that media product is being edited by policy makers and state institutions more than by media owners and editors. Most ones which remain beyond control could not care less ethics and standards and do not lag behind mainstream in terms of wickedness. Just two or three media outlets produce more or less worthy product.
We all know from the first grade at school that transferring components does not change the sum; it’s an axiom and that’s it. Although the given axiom does not operate only in mathematical operations; its validity can be easily proved with an example of Georgian media (especially TV.)
Whatever English we have learned so far, whatever subtitled movies we have watcehd with our eyes swollen, calling Russian speakers “retarded” and “mummy” all that has gone for vain!
Imagine a television which broadcasts 17-18 hours per day, but is more interesting to watch during the rest of the 6-7 hours, when it is off. Actually you don’t need to imagine it – just switch to Mze (Sun).
