Council of Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics Receives only One Complaint for Discussion

On February 3 Georgian Council of Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics admitted to discussion complaint by Roman Kevkhishvili against Gela Mtivlishvili, Director of the Information Center Kakheti, while rejecting NatoGogelia’s complaint against Maia Metskhvarishvili, Nino Danelia and IaAntadze.

Imedi Rejects Radio Hereti and Kavkasia TV Complaint
Radio Hereti - TV Imedi

Self-regulatory board of Imedi TV rejected the complaint lodged by Hereti broadcasting company (Lagodekhi) and Kavkasia TV on February 3.  Giga Giorgadze, Imedi TV lawyer said the appealers will receive motivation part of the decision within one week. 

“Today we only announced the resolution part; why we made such a decision will be clarified in the motivation part,” Giga Giorgadze told Media.ge.

GARB Launched News Exchange System
GARB

Georgian Association of Regional Broadcasters (GARB) uploads footage and scripts prepared by its Tbilisi Office to the joint server and GARB member TV channels use these materials as they wish. News exchange is done under the project titled Regional TV Channels with Improved Multiplatform News Products.

Russian Center for Journalism in Extreme Situations Suspended Its Activities

Russian Center for Journalism in Extreme Situations (ЦЕЖ) suspended its activities on February 1 on 12th anniversary since its foundation after many employees left the organization.

“Unfortunately, the Center suspended its work, at least in the form in which it gained a respectable organization’s reputation, an organization that defends journalists’ rights and supports development of society”,

Press Distribution Problem in Kutaisi

Kutaisi has two weeklies P.S. and Akhali Gazeti (New Newspaper).  Along with other problems the two publications face newspaper selling barriers and not enough revenues from realization. 

“Newspaper P.S. has not received any subsidy for over a year; it is not using up any grant and survives only by means of own revenues.  This in fact means that journalists work only for enthusiasm and with hope for   future,” P.S.

As the facts allow us to allege the government started the given attack from four directions.  First attack was conducted in spring, on May 26 when the riot police beat up, insulted, detained, seized equipment and destroyed professional footage from journalists when they were covering protest rallies of one of the opposition wings of Georgian population. 

Just recently the MIA had to admit that on May 26 it used excessive force against journalists and will have to compensate it not just by apologizing, but also by paying certain financial reimbursement.
